Hello Bobcat Families!
I hope you all enjoyed the three day weekend! I know our students are tired and it seems as though breaks always come at the most perfect times. I hope you have a great week, here is a look at what's coming up!

October Virtue
This month’s virtue is Safety. Staff members are on the lookout for students who are making safe choices and modeling this virtue throughout the month. We will announce our virtue winners at the end of the month!

Site Council
Interested in hearing what is coming up at Sandy Grade? Join our site council to help plan events, such as Jog-a-thon, Field Day, etc.! Our next virtual site council meeting will be 10/29 from 4:30-5:30. If interested, comment below and we will add you to the invite.

Fall Testing
Bobcat families! I am so proud of each and every one of your children who worked hard on our fall assessments. We use this data to meet kids where they are at and ensure they are making growth each week. As many of you know, a goal of mine is for every grade level to be at 80% proficient by the end of the year. According to our beginning of the year Acadience data below is where we are starting this fall. Besides kindergarten (since they don't have prior schooling), we are starting the year with the most amount of students at grade level for reading skills in a long time! If you have concerns about your student or want to know where they are starting the year out, please reach out to our classroom teachers. They would be happy to help and let you know how to support your child at home.

Kindergarten -37%
1st grade- 67%
2nd grade- 75%
3rd grade- 56%
4th grade- 64%
5th grade- 61%

  • Tuesday: Hat Day
  • Wednesday: Mismatch Day
  • Thursday: Dress up as your favorite book character!

Free Math Curriculum
We have older math curriculum available for the public to come and browse through. It is in the front vestibule area and will be available until the end of October. Thank you!

Parent teacher conference with colored pencils
Parent/Teacher Conferences:
This year is going to look different than the past several years. We have decided to tie parent/teacher conferences to report card time in February. More information to follow. This being said, teachers will be reaching out prior to then to discuss where your child is at and if we have any concerns. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Little Steps to Sucess
Your neighborhood elementary school is offering a program called “Little Steps to School Success” for you and your three, four, or five--year-old child (who is not yet enrolled in kindergarten). Your child will enjoy a special evening of stories and activities at the school. Each event is a special time for you and your preschooler only. You must accompany your preschooler, so there will be free childcare available for any siblings. These activities will take place in your child’s future kindergarten classroom and are led by teachers and staff from the school. The evening begins with a read-aloud by the kindergarten teacher, and is followed by fun activities to build skills your child will need for entering kindergarten. Your child will meet new friends who will be future classmates, meet his or her future kindergarten teacher, engage in skill-building activities that you can continue to do at home, and have fun. Each family that attends will receive a free book as well as a packet of activities to do together at home to reinforce skills.

Don’t miss out on this positive experience for your preschooler!
